Northbound Artist Meet and Greet: Minhwa Canada

November 05, 2019 at 12:00pm - 2pm

North York Centre

North York Arts is proud to present the Northbound Program, an initiative to highlight newcomer, first-generation, and local artists.

Join for a Northbound Artist Meet & Greet at the North York Centre, featuring Minhwa: The Colours of Korean Folk Art by the Minhwa Collective. Come celebrate the official opening of the exhibition and meet the artist behind the work!

Minhwa, or the literal term “painting of the people,” came about between the 1390s and 1890s as Asian folk art by anonymous painters. At the time, the work was forbidden and it was looked down upon by the royal families. However, as more citizens embraced the artwork, the more popularized the style became. Through their work, Minhwa Canada symbolizes the ‘painting of the people’ and what it means to be Asian-Canadian today.

The opening and meet & greet will take place on November 5 from 12 - 2 PM at the North York Centre and is free to the public.

Can't make it to the opening? The exhibition runs from November 5-21.
