Over the weekend the Ontario PC Party held our annual convention bringing together more than 2,000 delegates from across the province. On Saturday morning delegates passed Resolution 4.
As a delegate I was proud to vote against Resolution 4 and as a member of provincial parliament I have and will always stand up to protect the rights and dignity of all people including members of the LGBTQ community.
Our party and premier have been clear that this resolution does not constitute government policy and will never become part of the government’s legislative agenda. This Resolution was rejected by the convention’s policy committee and has been denounced by members of our caucus and the Premier.
My community of Willowdale is among the most diverse ridings in Ontario. We know that our diversity is our strength. All people, regardless of gender identity, cultural background, religious beliefs or sexual orientation should be respected by all - they are our family, friends, and neighbours. Gender identity is not up for debate and I will do everything in my power to ensure our party, our government, and our province protects the rights of all people and fights intolerance wherever it is found.
